School Violence: How can we keep students safe?

School violence is a complex and multifaceted issue that has garnered significant attention in recent years. It encompasses a range of behaviors, including physical aggression, bullying, and harassment, and can have serious consequences for both victims and perpetrators. Research has identified a number of risk factors for school violence, including individual, family, and community-level factors. Prevention efforts have focused on a variety of strategies, including early intervention, school-based programs, and community partnerships. Despite these efforts, school violence remains a persistent problem, highlighting the need for continued research and intervention efforts to promote safe and supportive learning environments.

What is school violence?

School violence, as the name indicates is violence or a disorder that occurs in the school or its surroundings. It includes bullying students, disrespectful behavior, and negative attitudes. It hinders the learning of students and leads toward a very pessimistic approach. Nowadays, it is very common to talk about domestic violence, child abuse, and many other topics. Unfortunately, topics such as school violence get the least attention. Such topics need to be covered and addressed properly because students are the building blocks of a nation. They are the future of the country. Their mental and spiritual well-being is crucial. These days in many or most of all schools, it is prohibited to hit the students in classrooms. However, there are no measures taken to ensure the mental well-being of students. Let us now discuss the ways through which we can keep students safe.

Increasing Wages Of Teachers

It may seem absurd but the low wages of teachers affect the organization in a very negative way. Unfortunately, in our country, in many private schools, teachers are underpaid. As a result, they tend to lose interest in their profession. When teachers are not happy and satisfied with their jobs, they are more likely to function properly.

Workshops

There are already many workshops in schools where teachers are counseled to work in a certain way to ensure the best grades for students. Although academic excellence is important, the other aspects of a child’s development such as good manners, grooming, and discipline can not be compromised. Teachers should be trained in how to deal with the students in class and get to know if any child is disturbed.

Weekly Sessions With Parents

Parents know their children more than the teachers. Not all students are open to teachers. On a weekly basis, parents especially mothers should be called to the school and the class teacher should discuss the behavior of every student in detail with the parents. So, if any student is lacking somewhere, both parents and teachers may make any strategy to overcome that.

Bullying Should Be Considered A Crime In School

Bullying has been something very common in schools for ages. It is mainly because many students and some teachers find it funny to mock or bully any student who lacks in something or is a nerd. It results in a lack of confidence in the bullied student. He sometimes tries to become like those ill-mannered students. To overcome this bullying, school management should take serious measures to punish students who do this. In this way, bullying will no longer be a fun thing for students.

Check On The Mobile Phone And Social Media Usage

For the past half-decade, social media has been the main source of increasing violence, anger issues, and behavioral disorders in people. Especially in their teenage, when students are not capable of differing between right and wrong. Mobile phones and social media are getting on their nerves. To ensure the productive use of mobile phones, both parents and teachers have to work in parallel by continuously counseling the students.

Spiritual Upbringing

In many schools and colleges these days there is a focus on art and music classes. Although this is also important aesthetically the focus should be more on the spiritual upbringing and behavioral development of the students. Proper classes should be arranged and a specific teacher should be hired to teach the students about contentment and moral values. Religion should be taught in detail to make sure the students won’t go away from this divine path.

Meditation And Yoga Classes

In many countries especially in China and Japan, a lot of emphasis is put on yoga and exercise. It is a very effective way to remain calm and get rid of aggressiveness. If proper yoga classes were given to students, it would help them to relieve their stress and aggressiveness. As a result, they will be calmer and no offense to the students and teachers would be done. In this way, they will also be involved in more physical activity resulting in a relaxed mind and body.

Above mentioned are some of the ways that will help to decrease school violence. It is high time that we as a nation have to stand together to ensure the schools are producing well-behaved and mentally satisfied individuals.
